Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
